Designer Hiromasa Fukaji Combines Tajima Embroidery Technology with Computational Design in HANAITO Project
Designer combines traditional and digital embroidery processes
Executive Overview
Japanese designer Hiromasa Fukaji created the HANAITO project for Tajima's &T embroidery art brand, combining Tajima sewing machine technology with computational processes and hand-dyed marigold thread. The two artworks feature abstract flower forms satin stitched onto poly-cotton fabric using layered rayon thread for a 3D-illusory effect, produced with a custom embroidery design tool. Fukaji hand-dyed the embroidery thread with marigold flower petals, marrying traditional methods with modern computing.
