Groz-Beckert will present its LCmax energy-saving needles, SAN TT and SAN FY special-application needles, and a patented compound needle for fine-gauge elastic fabrics at ITMA Asia + CITME 2026 in Shanghai from 20-24 November.
Gear Patrol has highlighted a stealthy jacket that combines Gore-Tex and Dyneema to handle extreme weather conditions. The jacket blends these two materials in a single garment aimed at severe-weather use. No further technical specifications, performance metrics, or pricing details were provided in the source text.
The Lycra Company and Fulgar hosted Legwear Innovation Day 2026 at the Fulgar Event Space in Castel Goffredo, Italy, drawing nearly 150 hosiery industry representatives.
New York-based industrial artist Kicki Chudikova curated the second edition of The Designer Edit by HBF Textiles, a collection of six palettes drawing on HBF Textiles designs from multiple collections. Each palette is accented by six new color additions to the Free Way chrome-free leather line, spanning bleach-cleanable textures, renewable fibers such as cork, wool and cotton, and mold- and weather-resistant outdoor fabrics.
Fujifilm Ink is strengthening its OEM development and industrial inkjet focus at its Broadstairs, Kent operation, combining ink formulation, printhead integration, application testing and commercial-scale manufacturing to help partners translate complex requirements into viable solutions.
Ultima Displays has installed a life-sized F1 racing car model built from Formulate tension fabric materials at its Corby showroom, after the replica received a Highly Commended prize at the Print Industry Awards 2026. The model, first shown at The Print Show 2025 at the NEC in Birmingham, integrates a race simulator with seat, steering wheel, and pedals. Trade partners can book showroom visits to view the display and Ultima's wider range of display innovations.
Hyosung TNC has moved its sugarcane-derived spandex fiber into scaled production, according to WWD. The bio-based fiber is produced from sugarcane feedstock, though specific capacity figures and commercialization timelines were not disclosed in the source.
Manufacturing & Process Note: Bio-based spandex shifts feedstock exposure from petrochemical propylene oxide to sugarcane-derived intermediates; qualification lots should be validated against existing heat-set and dyeing lines before scaling, since cure and colorfastness windows may differ from conventional spandex.
AVK announced the 2026 Innovation Awards on 20 October at JEC Composites Talks DACH in Cologne, recognizing Anybrid's thermoplastic PP-CF drill bit with a 70% weight reduction versus steel and Renewpoly's bio-based FlexFuran fire-retardant resin system.
Dow has launched Dowsil IE-5619 DWOR Emulsion, a third-generation silicone-organic hybrid textile finish that provides durable water and oil repellency without fluorinated chemistry.
Manufacturing & Process Note: The shift to fluorine-free finishes requires mills to revalidate cure schedules and wash-durability performance on each fabric substrate; the 1–3% solids add-on and 150°C cure window fit existing stenters, but oil repellency claims must be verified per construction before commercial adoption.
Fulgar presented its EVO 100% bio-based yarn and Q-GEO polyamide with almost 50% renewable content at the Performance Days exhibition in Munich. Q-GEO offers 50% greater moisture absorption than conventional polyamide, improved breathability, rapid drying and inherent flame retardancy without additives. The company identified price premiums, feedstock sourcing and credible certification as key barriers to wider adoption of bio-based synthetics.
MarediModa Cannes closed its 24th edition on 29 October 2026 with results in line with the previous year and no decline in overall activity, despite geopolitical and economic uncertainty. The exhibition presented more than 100 Summer 2028 collections and introduced the inaugural Cannes Fashion Show, featuring prototype garments made from exhibitors' fabrics. Organisers also presented the Spring/Summer 2028 trend forecast by David Shah, built around five themes: Hyper, Chill, Hot, Flow and Bang.
Eve Reverse and TRPD Consulting & Engineering developed and flight-tested a bio-based composite sandwich structure for a widebody aircraft raised cargo platform, achieving more than 90% bio-based content by weight.
Manufacturing & Process Note: Flax-fiber bio-based sandwich panels cured out-of-autoclave reduce energy costs but require tight control of resin impregnation and oven cycle consistency to meet load-bearing tolerances; the aluminum wear facing adds a secondary bonding step that must be validated for long-term durability under repeated cargo handling.
USA Bobsled is looking to aerospace technology as it prepares for Salt Lake City 2034, according to Inside The Games. The report links the team's preparations to aerospace composites suppliers including Hexcel, Teijin, SGL and Syensqo. No specific materials, equipment specifications or performance metrics were disclosed in the source text.
Japanese designer Hiromasa Fukaji created the HANAITO project for Tajima's &T embroidery art brand, combining Tajima sewing machine technology with computational processes and hand-dyed marigold thread. The two artworks feature abstract flower forms satin stitched onto poly-cotton fabric using layered rayon thread for a 3D-illusory effect, produced with a custom embroidery design tool. Fukaji hand-dyed the embroidery thread with marigold flower petals, marrying traditional methods with modern computing.
YKK Corp.'s R&D department created a concept EXCELLA zipper using tape made from nonwoven fabric sheets produced by fiberizing used clothing and other textile materials via Epson's Dry Fiber Technology.
Industry leaders from Birdair, ASATI, GuildWorks and Seaman Corporation trace the fabric structures sector's shift from temporary solutions to permanent architectural elements, citing PTFE-coated fiberglass and ETFE film as key membrane developments.
Kanbo Pras Corp. developed REI KEEP, a polyester or glass fiber membrane infused with SPACECOOL multilayer optical film, which delivered a roughly 10 degrees Celsius drop in effective temperature in comparative tent testing.
Lucy Dunne's Wearable Technology Lab at the University of Minnesota is developing a light-therapy bodysuit for infants with jaundice, now on its third prototype, which uses off-the-shelf LEDs rather than fiber-optic fibers.
Peak Performance, with ALLIED Feather + Down, Bureo, PERTEX, and Resortecs, created the Helium Loop Anorak, a recyclable prototype jacket designed for automated disassembly.
Manufacturing & Process Note: Heat-activated Smart Stitch thread enables component separation at end-of-life, but plant managers must validate bond integrity under repeated wash cycles and ensure supply chain readiness for scaled thread production. The five-year plan for European disassembly plants requires alignment with local textile waste logistics and sorting infrastructure.
The SolidSail Mast Factory (SMAF) in Lanester, inaugurated on 12 February 2026, has begun series production of 65–70 metre carbon masts for cargo ships, with draping now 90% robotised from 95% manual in the prototype.
Manufacturing & Process Note: The shift to robotised draping and towpreg placement reduces manual layup variability, but prepreg tack and out-life still govern scrap rates and autoclave cycle reliability; thermoplastic LMPAEK foils require higher processing temperatures and dedicated tooling, which will affect line changeover and energy cost.
